Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business by Dolly Parton

I just finished reading this autobiography by Dolly Parton. Growing up we listened to a lot of Dolly’s music. We even watched her on the Porter Wagner show. The need to read this book was very great the day I found the copy of this book in the second hand book store that I frequent. Dolly writes just the way I have heard her speak and sing. She is very upfront about her life growing up in the hills. Growing up poor certainly did not dampen her desire for fun and mischief. This desire has gone with her throughout her career and personal life, as evidenced by the stories Dolly Parton tells. Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business was both funny and eye opening. There were times that I felt for her growing up the way Dolly did. But then I guess that is what has made her who she is. A great read, I would recommend this book to anyone who has been a fan of Dolly Parton and wants to come to know her on a personal level as well. There are some stories in here that were new to me and there were some that I have been aware of through the years and Dolly does her best to be honest in telling her side of the story. Were apologies are necessary; Dolly is very quick to give them. Her spiritual side shines through in this autobiography too. It is not hard to love the star along with the ordinary person.
